Today’s Tip: How To Unfreeze a Frozen Ipad Safari Browser
Do you have the Ipad?? If you do then you are probably using the IPad’s Safari browser.? The Safari browser can get frozen and it can be a very frustrating event to fix… unless you know how.? You can try to power down and turn it back on.? You can try to go to the settings and clear your cookies, cache, history.? You can push all the buttons at once in frustration as you try to reset your Ipad’s safari browser.? But none of it works.? But there is a way to unfreeze your frozen Ipad web browser.? Here is how:
1.? Open the Safari webpage that is frozen.? Once that is on your screen go to step 2.
2.? If you are holding the Ipad the long way (so it looks like a book), on the top right of your IPad is the power button.? What you need to do now is hold down that power button for a few seconds.? A “slide” will open up on your screen.
3.? Do not slide the “slide”.? Instead, now you should hold down the “home” button on your Ipad.? The home button is that little circle button underneath the bottom of your IPad screen.
4.? After 5 to 10 seconds your screen will be on your regular desktop home page.? Now, try clicking that Safari browser and see if it opens and works and all is well.? I bet it does!
Good Luck & Enjoy 🙂

CHEEEEEEEERS!!!!!
Btilliant. Thank uou
Wicked! It worked like a charm 🙂
I might be the first person that this didn’t work for me. I have no doubt it’s a good tip based on all the positive feedback, but my problem was perhaps slightly different so will post my solution in the hope it helps somebody. Even after I did what you suggested my Safari still tried to load the page that crashed it in the first place, and of course it crashed it again. I could not break the cycle, no matter what I did Safari kept trying to load the problem page. Here is what I finally did:
1) Go to Settings, put the iPad in Airplane Mode
2) Open Safari
3) When I receive message that says, “Turn Off Airplane Mode or Use Wi-Fi to Access Data,” just click OK. Do not go to Settings and turn Airplane Mode off (yet).
4) Enter a non-problem website into the navigation bar (e.g., http://www.cnn.com)
5) Go to Settings and turn off Airplane Mode
6) Open Safari back up, it should load cnn.com (or whatever you just put).
7) Don’t go to the problem website ever again!
I was so hoping this would work for me. I followed your directions to the letter 6 times with no result. Is there something else I might try?k
After trying it twice, it worked great!!! thanks so much,
abk
Excellent – 5 hours of trying different routines, let it sit overnight and simple lookup on another PC I find your site. 2 seconds and everyting is perfect! Thank you!!!
Thank you so very much. Thought I had a major problem but thanks to you everything working fine first time.
You?re a life saver!!!!!
your instruction is great, thank you, you are the best!!

It’s awesome tips. Thanks a lots!
It worked! Thanks so much.
PERFECT! thanx
Thank you very much for this tip. It worked and my Ipad Safari Browser is unfrozen. I appreciate your help!
It took two tries, but it worked.
I am so thankful for this suggestion.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
You are awesome, this totally worked…. thank you!!!!
Thank you! It worked.
Good Job!!!! It worked perfectly!
I tried to do the trick – but it did not unfreeze the jumbled page (GMAIL!) which shows on the ‘tab- that it is locked”and then
the extact thing that I see in my browser is:
https://mail.google.com/mail/mu/mp/779 and then the 779 switches into 156 constantly and the tab shows the little icon of a ‘lock’
at the same time, I can not seem to close the other tabs – I can still open new ones, but gmail will always have this ‘locked-switching’ behaviour.
I tried the trick of someone above who suggested the flight-mode, but still it doesn’t work…
can anybody help?!
thanks!
sabine
Wonderful!!!
It worked ok.
Thanks!
Thanks a million, it was all just as you said (clicking on all buttons in frustration) 🙂
Thou rocketh. thanks so much.
Thank you so much 🙂
It was so easy to follow the steps and like Magic all went to normal .
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
You saved us from smashing my ipad into the floor. I thought microsoft had a monopoly on frustrating awful programming. Guess not.
Hey buddy, i wanna thank you for your useful tips to unfreeze the safari. Wow it has worked and thanks a lot bro.
thanks a lot. I didn’t think it would work, but it did.
Perfect! Worked ! Saved me a drive and wait at Apple Store! Thanks
Thanks for the great tip. It took me several tries but it finally worked. My safari was stuck on a page and kept loading that page every time I opened Safari. Power off/on did not work. Finally, I pressed the power button and got to the red arrow screen (step 2) before that stuck page completed loading. I then followed the rest of the steps above and that did the trick.
Fantastic!!
I thought Id need a trip into town and a few days without my Ipad to have this fixed!
Hurrah … all sorted in a minute!!
Woo hoo!!
Bill, i first went into settings and cleared the Safari history, cookies, and cache – that did not work. Then i tried the first suggestion above of holding down the power button, etc. It did not work after two tries. Then I tried your airplane mode, etc. twice to no avail. Then I tried the power button scenario again and now everything is fine. I do not know if it was the combination that worked but everything is ok now.
thanks a million
You are marvelous! I tried for hours to get this unfrozen. Your tip worked in seconds. Thanks, thanks, thanks!
thank you so much…instructions are easy and it works…hooray!!
Thank you soooooooo much!!!!!
Thank you so much for your advice, my beloved ipad now works, your advice saved me a trip in the rain to the Apple store!!
Hi. Tried your solution, but didn’t work for me. Safari hasn’t worked on my iPad for several months, and nothing seems to affect it. I have been using the Atomic browser, which is actually better, but unfortunately, you can’t make that your default browser. So, living with frustration still. Thanks for the tip though; sounds like it worked for others.
This works. Neat trick. Thanks for the head’s up!
WONDERFUL TIP! THANK YOU ONE TRILLION TIMES! IT WORKED !
GOD BLESS YOU!
Thank you,it worked
Thank you!! I have had frozen screen for few days now. Thank you for the advice!!
It worked! Had to try it five time, but it finally worked. thanks.
THANK YOU! 🙂
Thanks its work now !
:))))
Was going to go to the apple store to have it fixed, then came across your solution.
Thank you so much.
Worked like a charm! Thanks!
my one is not working still..
I am not sure if I have the same situation as everybody else, here is my situation
one day it just start to be froozen often,
if I only safari, it will automatically load the pages I opened last time, the problem if, I CANNOT click the http bar to type the URL where I wanna go. I can only use the bookmark to go to the page where saved in the bookmark, or open another tab page..
as long as I wanna open a new tab or click on the URL, it freezes.
is this the same situation with everybody?
T..T how bad it happens always, why don’t apple fix this problem?
Five hours of struggle, then i thought to ask my tired old apple computer! Problem solved immediately! Thank you so much!
Margie
Thanks
Thank you, worked first time 🙂
You are a genius!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Mwa!
Thank you so much! This worked! All the best from the Marshall Islands! Kommol tata!
AWESOME!! Thank you!
Thank You! Worked for us too. Thank You so much.
I tried this method, and it did not work for me… it just took me back to the same page that caused my browser to hang. My solution was to go to Setting/Safari/ Clear History & Clear Cookies and Data. After that, I relaunched the browser and it was fine.
tx.
Thank you thank you! I thought I was going to have to tell my husband I broke his Ipad!
Thank you AGAIN!
thanks – your tip worked well. Jon
Thankyou so so much!!!!
Confused by Step 2. There is no power button on the top right corner of ipad.
Do you mean the battery indicator on the top right corner of the screen? I tried to hold it down and nothing happened.
Can you explain what the “power button” is?
Thanks.
Harry
Your advice worked like a charm; thanks!
Thanx , it worked like magic
Guru, thank you
THANKS IT WORKED!!!!
Excellent!!! My screen wouldn’t rotate and was making me goin crazy! Thanks
Your suggestion helped Thanks
Brilliant piece of advice. Had to download another browser app to find out!
Thanks a lot! Love it!
Worked like a charm! Thanx a bunch!!
IPad problem. My browser screen in Safari is greyed out and will not work. I can type in different web sites but they are still greyed out. I tried the fix you gave for frozen browser but that did not work. Do you have another idea?
Thanks.
Was a little worried this could be making me wipe the ipad or something but it worked easily. Thanks so much!
Fab advice, worked perfectly. Thanks
Thank you so much! clear instructions, worked like a charm!
ahhhhhhh! you are my hero…at least for today Thank you!!!
Yup. Worked. Thanks.
Worked and Thank YOU.
Thank you! This also works on an iPhone 4 running iOS7 with a broken power button. Turn on Assistive Touch to replace the function of the broken power button, then follow the instructions holding “Lock Screen” in Assistive Touch until the power down slide comes up. DO NOT slide the power down slide, but instead hold home until it unfreezes and goes back to the home page.
I’m just another satisfied reader. It worked just like you said. Thank you so much!
Your instructions saved me a lot of trouble.!
worked like a charm!
this saved me from wasting so much time thanks it works brillantly
Absolutely fantastic…..thank you so much….
This also worked for me when I went to cracked.com and it kept saying ‘Cannot Open Page’.
I’d click ok and get the same message and It wouldn’t let me do anything else.
By using this method I was able to get Safari back to multiple windows so I could close the offending page.
Thankyou!
My iPad was freezing on the sme website that had worked in the past! It’s my a jewelry studio on Etsy.com. I can get it to unfreeze but can no longer get into my shop/studio via the safari iPad browser! I can get in via the etsy app or a link in Facebook or on my iPhone safari browser. I thought it was a problem with etsy not accepting safari browser so I reported a bug. After reading all of these posts I’m not sure where the problem lies….safari iPad or etsy.com. I have been using it on a regular basis until today! Any ideas?
Thanks for the tip, it worked.
it doesn’t work for me? i tried to reset the iPad as well by holding the home button and the power button at the same time.. no success
i don’t know what to do 🙁
Great tip… safari recovered perfectly as outlined here. Lifesaver!!
Still didn’t work for me. Each time i try to open safari on my son’s iPad the top header is gray. On mine it is white. Nothing will load at all. Can’t click bookmarks or + or icloud. Nothing at all. Then it finally closes on it’s own and comes back up again, same issue.
Cant believe how quick and simple this was – thank you!
It works for me! Thanks very much.
Thank you.
Worked like a charm. Pulling my hair out for hours before I found this. You absolutely rock!
(Oh and Harry – sorry, long time since you posted your question so you may have figured it out already – the power button is the long flat button on the same side as the headphones input hole, to the right of the forward-facing camera lens. It’s not anything you push on the screen, like a battery indicator; it’s a physical button. Good luck.)
Safari is frozen with a white box that says “Are you sure you want to submit this form again? Cancel Submit”
I didn’t submit any form but holding down on cancel or submit doesn’t do anything. I have turned off and on but the same box still comes up.
Genius – thanks
Thanks for posting that. Avoid DFDS website booking, has an error which freezes Safari
Very helpful, I had never experienced the problem before and I’m grateful for such an easy solution, many thanks
It worked ! Thank you. Oddly too, that the Outlook app came back on again.
Great tip, worked first time. Thanks
Thank you
This was very useful!
Thanks ! I am addicted to my Ipad . Well really every techie thing I own. It would have been a great inconvenience if I could not browse from my downstairs desk and had to go upstairs to the desktop or into the bedroom to my nook. Really that’s a joke, but I do use all 3 equally just depends on where I am. And ,well there is my smart phone. Thanks, again.
I have done that numerous times, works okay a couple of times and then freezes again. it’s very frustrating!
It worked, how did you do that? I feel like I have my best friend back again.
Muchos gracias
Sandybobs
It worked, thanks a million. Spent so much time trying unfreeze it, I tried your magic trick and it worked immediately!
My iPad has never frozen like that before. I was in the middle of posting an assignment for an online class and did not know what to do. Your steps worked perfectly! Thank you so much!
thank you, thank you and 1 more thank you…i have been trying for 5 days and was ready to go to best buy.best tip ever!thanks!
Hell Yeah it work
Thanks very much, great stuff!
You are a lifesaver! This was such a frustrating problem and such a simple solution. My hero!
Brilliant! Worked first time. Thanks a million.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this advice about our ipad! It worked just like you said!
I tried and didnt work at all
Thank you very much for posting this solution, was already getting frustrated why it wasn’t working. Then I thought on googling it maybe I’m not the only one having the problem. Loved to see smart people like posting their solution
Tip Top Top Tip – brilliant
Thank you
Thank you sooooooo much!!!!
Great! My hubby opened a Google Maps site, which was too freezing to my iPad. I did just you told and now it’s working again!
I heard that Google and Safari don’t match with each other nowadays in iOS7. So problems will follow in the future also.
Thank you so much for this tip!
Brilliant. Thank you very much
Thank you for the advice on a locked up ipad. Worked like a charm!!
Absolutely top tip. What a relief! Thank you.
I had tried everything and Apple support online was not a help, but this worked like a champ! You are the best – thank you!!
Thank you so much for the advice. It worked a treat.
I guess I am the only one that it didn’t work for. It comes back to safari but with the same webpage that I can’t get out of.
I have had this problem so many times and got frustrated until I found your tip. Thanks so much, you saved my life!
Brilliant. I messed up the first effort, by not starting from the frozen page. Worked perfectly when I did it properly. A hundred thanks from me.
Worked like a charm. THANK YOU!
Thank you. Starting to panic until I found your advice
Had a problem with one particular website that caused my browser to freeze up. Followed your steps, and done! Working 100% again! Thank you for the advice.
Thank you! It worked like a charm.
I tried the two suggested tips above, but neither worked. I was locked out of safari after switching to IOS 8.0.2.
hi, thansk for the tip. Have you tried it on iPad OS8? The steps will not work for mine, after 3 tries Safari still frozen
I found this site after I googled for a solution. The instructions worked! Thank you!
Clear Safari history solution worked for me. Thx
Tried your suggestion but alas it did not work. Have recently downloaded IOS 8.
Where do I go from here????
It did work, but I was worried at first when after step 3 nothing happened and it looked like my ipad had completely crashed. I had to hold down the power button for quite a while and then it booted up again and is working fine now. Thank you – I hadn’t got around to calling Apple, but that would have been my next step and I bet they would’ve charged me. My Ipad was just over a year old so out of warranty.
At long last it is now fixed, thank you.
After trying in vain for quite some time. Saw your site and solution.
THANKS A TON.
Adding to this endless flow of happiness
I had to do it 2 or 3 times, but it worked. Great!
Thank you so much! It solved the problem. Wonder why Apple doesn’t recommend the solution. I guess they rather have you bring it in and pay the 75 bucks.
It worked!
Brilliant, worked 1st time. Panic over. Thank you.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Worked like a dream. Thank you X 1,000,000!!
You saved my day!
Only question remains: “Why got it stuck?”
Thanks! This worked for me too. It was very frustrating, thank you!
Great tip! It worked on the 5s.
I had multiple important tabs open on Safari when in one site a pop up notification messed up the whole browser and I was stuck with the notification even though I was able to close the tab for the related webpage. Thanks to you, I was able to get rid of the notification without losing the other websites on the browser’s tabs!
I tried this once before and it worked. My Safari is still frozen after trying after multiple attempts. I started having this problem again since updating to 8.2. This needs to be fixed, like NOW!
Thank you so much!!!!! It really worked!
Brilliant solution. Thanks, it worked so quickly.
I also tried this trick to unfreeze my frozen Safari and it worked. THANK YOU!
This still works. I have an IPAD Air2.
Good thing I still have my windows PC, that I could find the solution on!
First off I have had the problem of super slow response time from both Safari and Spotlight. Which nothing seems to fix. Then suddenly last week Facebook authentication pages stopped loading. Now as of yesterday YouTube pages just won’t load in safari at all. And just now Safari simply won’t open. It hangs and then shuts itself off. I’ve bern trying every possible method for the last hour. Wtf Apple
Thank you mucho! Was thinking might need to bring the iPad to apple for repair. Thanks again!
This is not working for me. I can hold the power button for minutes and Safari page I was on is still flashing and stuck. Double pressing the home button doesn’t produce any results either. do you have any other at home suggestions?
It worked – fab, thank you!!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! it really worked thank your thank you!!!!
thanks it works!
It worked perfectly! Thank you so much!!
Thanks! 🙂
Works like a dream!
Best wishes
Seb
SO AWESOME!!! Thank you!
OMG!! this worked perfect
only took a few seconds..my ipad is back to working perfect
It didn’t work.
I have a window frozen from scare ware and can’t get it unlocked. Help!
Thank you so much! It worked! I’m grateful.
Yes, works fine. Thank you!
Your tip solved my problem immediately. Fantastic!!! Thank you.
BIG THANK YOU!
I can’t take any of those steps, because the ipad is frozen on Youtube. I was trying to like a video in the new and not very good way that YT now provides, and my connection went. Result: the page is frozen in mid-like, hanging up all of Safari. I know have my connection back, but Safari is still frozen, so I’m writing this on Maxthon. The moral: always have at least one spare browser to fall back on.
Just to say thank you its only took me 2 mins to fix once I knew how thanks a millon
Thanks very much-did the trick!
Thanks you.
It worked straight away
Thank you. It worked on my I pod. Very grateful.
It was magical!!!!!
Thanks ever so much!! May God bless you!!!
Sounds like you all got lucky, I did not. None of the above worked for me. All I did was go to Settings, then to Safari and then clicked on Clear History and Website date. It worked. Good luck.
Worked a treat on my newish iPad mini. Thanks to all who figured this out.
Thanks, it worked for me. Better than the Apple help site.
Tried to load iOS 9.3; it failed (says there is no internet connection when there in fact IS). Deleted iOS 9.3 in settings. Now at 9.2.1 and Safari is freezing,
Tried this fix to no avail. It will pull up a list of searched for websites, but will NOT open any of them (won’t open OR ‘open in new tab’). Yikes. I was able to download Foxfire, and it works fine. Safari still not working…
It unlocks it, but the problem of freezing when selecting from a google results list persists . . .
I have ipad mini and new ios 9.3 . Nothing works now to return the Safari links back to function. I tried these all. It started after two days after loading 9.3 .
Thanks it finally worked on the iPad and iPhone 6 for me when I combined this power off suggestion with the earlier one of turning aeroplane mode on and off
Thanks alot, simple instructions led to a simple solution. Far better than any other online help including Apple.
Many thanks for your assistance. The tip worked well.
